Jonny 99

Presenting Jonny 99, what a bike!  John and I worked to design a bike he could use for commuting around Madison, WI and touring/exploring the countryside.  We obsessed over the details and the result speaks for itself. When John realized the bike was serial number 99 he named it after one of his favorite songs, Johnny 99 by Bruce Springsteen.

Sadly, the most important part, John, is missing as he recently passed away from brain cancer. I first met John over a decade ago in Madison. He was just one of those people you were always happy to see around town on the bike path (I’m pretty sure he was always wearing a brown suit), in the bike shop, or at a party. About a year ago he contacted me after retiring looking for his dream bike. I was excited to work on this project with him and got to know him better in the last year than I ever have, which is how these projects go. In true bike geek fashion John wanted to make sure this bike was completed regardless of his outcome such that his son Manny can ride it. Manny, Adam at NYF paint, and I worked together to come up the paint layout and the perfect colors.
