Norther-Lyon Rescue

Posted on May 1, 2022 in Special Projects

Bill wanted a new fork for his Norther-Lyon bike.  There wasn’t anything wrong with the original fork, he just didn’t like the handling of the low trail design, which is understandable.  I love low trail bikes, but bike handling can be subjective.   I’ve also been curious to check out this collaboration between Jeff Lyon and Norther Cycles so I took on the project.  I made Bill a new fork with less rake, while I was there I also made it fit the connector-less SON SL hub, and did a full rebuild on the bike including installing some new painted to match Honjo fenders.  Adam from @nyf.paint did a great work as usual matching the not so easy to match color and cutting some stencils to redo the down tube logo in gold paint, which was originally a vinyl sticker that by now was mostly missing.  Tidying up the wiring and adding the fenders transformed the look of the bike while the new fork gives it a much more neutral (for lack of a better word) handling.  It was a wonderfully zippy bike on the test ride.  It planes!

While Norther Cycles is no longer, Jeff Lyon is of course still building great bikes and you can find him here: @jefflyon531. Mark continues his custom work making Belladonna Cycles:  @belladonnabicycles
