This One’s a Keeper
Prototype #1
The design challenge: Make a bike inspired by the classic randonneur bike without falling into the trap of vintage reproduction.
Aesthetics: Thanks in part to the ingenuity and artistry of Jason Sanchez /Sanchez Paintshop I think we accomplished the goal- modern, striking, and unique.
Function: The geometry and tubing of the classic bikes is hard to improve upon. Thin wall narrow diameter main tubes with stiff chainstays make a bike that just wants to go, and it does. The updated, larger 1 ⅛” steerer on the fork works well with the low trail geometry and improves the handling when loaded down with a full handlebar bag and lowriders for camping, while the narrow diameter fork tips maintain a comfortable ride. Add to this a modern lighting system, a well designed drivetrain, the unsurpassed Compass Cycle tires, and the result is a bike unlike any I’ve ever ridden. This is in my opinion the perfect road bike, gravel bike, commuter, and light tourer. I suppose you could even use it for a brevet.
