Side Project: Fitz Rando build with custom racks

Posted on Mar 13, 2019 in Special Projects

Will from up in the Keweenaw Peninsula was looking for someone to build up his 2nd hand Fitz Cyclez frameset with some custom racks and caught me at the perfect time between projects.  I was curious to have a closer look at John Fitzgerald’s work (it’s very nice), Will had a pretty respectable list of parts and is a nice guy so I took on the project.

Details:

Fitz low trail frameset with custom stainless handlebar bag support rack.

Drivetrain:  Simplex derailleurs, TTA Pro 5 VIS Cranks, SunTour Power Ratchet bar end shifters (down tube would have been preferred, the the frame does not accept those).  Classy stuff.

Racks:  Modify the existing handlebar bag support rack by adding a light mount.  Build a custom lowrider rack.

Bags/decaluer:  Ruthworks SF handlebar bar bag and panniers with my new modified Rene Herse Decaleur

Wheels:  My new favorite Velocity Quill 650b rims with my old favorite Rene Herse Babyshoe Pass 650b x 42mm tires.

Lighting:  SON wide body hub with Velo Lumino TMAT stem switch, Velo Lumino AT seat tube taillight, and a Lumotec IQ Cyo headlight.

This is going to be one fun bike.

I’ll post photos here as this project moves along:
